Narinder Singh Kapany

Narinder Singh Kapany ( born October 12, 1926 in Moga, Punjab, India) is a physicist who is known as the inventor of the optical waveguides.

He grew up in Dehra Dun and graduated from Agra University. At first he was the head of an Indian arms factory in Rajpur in British order. In 1952 he moved to London, where he studied optics at Imperial College of Science and Technology, London, and in 1955 his Ph.D. earned. He made ​​important contributions to research in the areas of interference microscopy, optical detection values ​​, the photo electronics and light guide research.

He taught at the University of Rochester in New York State and later at the Illinois Institute of Technology in Chicago.

Since 1960 he lives in Silicon Valley and founded Optics Technology Inc., which went public in 1967. In 1973 he founded Kaptron Inc., whose president and CEO, he was, until he sold it in 1990 to AMP.
