NASCAR's 50 Greatest Drivers
NASCAR's 50 Greatest Drivers is a list of famous and successful NASCAR driver.
In 1998, NASCAR began to celebrate its 50th anniversary, the body which is to determine the 50 greatest NASCAR drivers of all time. This effort was inspired in part by the list of the 50 greatest players in NBA history that was emitting from the NBA at its 50th anniversary in 1996. An independent group of 50 people, representing different roles in NASCAR were asked for their opinions, which drivers are among the 50 largest in the history of NASCAR. Bill France Jr., president of NASCAR, said:
The surviving members of the group of riders was honored on February 15, 1998, during the festivities for the start of the Daytona 500 at Daytona International Speedway.
