NASCAR's Most Popular Driver Award

NASCAR 's Most Popular Driver Award is an award for the most popular driver of a NASCAR series in a season. The prize is awarded since 1956 in what is now the Sprint Cup since 1982 in the Nationwide Series and since 1995 in the Craftsman Truck Series. In the Nationwide Series and Craftsman Truck Series, the award was issued to someone else from the beginning.

In the former Grand National was initially just a simple driver survey, however, some with riders of all NASCAR racing classes, including the amateur classes. Nowadays the Most Popular Driver is determined by a poll of the fans.

The award is presented by the National Motorsports Press Association ( NMPA ) and received in 2005 with Chex a sponsor. The ceremony to nominate the Most Popular Driver is called " Myers Brothers Awards Breakfast" and takes place in New York City at the Waldorf -Astoria Hotel. The award winner is usually announced in December. The Most Popular Driver Award to be named after Bill Elliott as soon as it ended his career.

Bill Elliott is the record winner of this award, he won it from 1991 to 2000 ten times and 16 times. Since the 2003 season is always Dale Earnhardt Jr. Most Popular Driver.
