Nasio Fontaine

Nasio Fontaine (born 1969 in Carte -Bois, Dominica ) is a dominicanischer Rastafari and reggae musician.

Life

Nasio Fontaine was born as the youngest of seven children. At the age of eight he began to sing in the school and the church. The poor conditions in which he lived, forced him to creative DIY all kinds of musical instruments, with whom he soon appeared at the annual talent contests his school. Especially the genres Calypso, Soca and Zouk inspired him; his definitive style he found, however, only when he moved in 1981 to the neighboring island of Sint Maarten and came there with Reggae and Rastafari in touch. At the age of 13, he told his parents that he no longer wanted to go to church, and this allowed him. From that moment on, he supported himself as a strict vegetarian, studying the Rastafarian religion, the principles of which he has lived ever since.

Dismissed from school, he worked as a day laborer and lived in modest circumstances, saved as best he could his money and dreamed of making music. Meanwhile, he brought friends with chords and he even learned to write properly until he had finally saved enough money in 1986 and his first song Born to be free produced at its own expense. He sold 5,000 singles right away. This earned him a small financial gain and a lot of prestige in Dominica and the Caribbean environment, so that he was elected to the national artist of the year. Of this he was not blinded and returned to his job back as a day laborer. This work, he went up again he had enough money together in 1990, to receive another board. This was so successful that he could henceforth exclusively dedicated to music itself.

Today he lives with his wife in New York.
