Nastasen

Nastasen was a Nubian king.

He is known from a stela found himself in New Dongola and his pyramid Nu 15 in Nuri. In the pyramid shabtis found with his name and with his name inscribed silver mirror, so that the assignment of the pyramid to Nastasen appears beyond doubt. On the stele, dating in its 8th year of reign, the events of his reign are recorded in annals form. The document is one of the most important Nubian inscriptions at all.

The father of Nastasen is unknown, but he was probably king, as the mother of Nastasen: Pelcha, was Queen. The wife of Nastasen was a certain six- Mach. She was probably his sister. From the latter, the stele is known, which will have decorated their previously unidentifiable pyramid.

The 1.63 m high stele of the ruler, which is now in Berlin, begins with the date and the royal titulary. It is reported on how the king of Meroe went to be crowned after Napata, where the ruler was chosen by a divine oracle. He then visited other important temples ( Kawa ), where his rule was confirmed by local gods in oracles. It is of historic interest is the report of a campaign by Nubia, where he fought against a certain Kambasawden. It has repeatedly been trying to identify this person with the Egyptian anti-king Chababasch, but this remains unproven. At the end of the text wars against the Meded nomads and others, rather small tribes are mentioned.

From Nastasen originates also a short inscription ( only his name ), he at Mount Barkal has directly so affixed.

Nastasen dated well into the second half of the 4th century BC.
