Nat Jaffe

Nat Jaffe ( born 1918 in New York City; † August 5, 1945 in Manhattan, New York City ) was an American jazz pianist of the swing.

Jaffe lived with his parents from 1921 to 1932 in Berlin, where he took classical piano lessons. It was only on his return to the U.S. In 1932, he became interested in jazz. He accompanied Noel Francis, played with the Emery German Orchestra and as a pianist in the clubs of 52nd Street. He played with the bands of Joe Marsala, Charlie Barnet (1938 /39) and Jack Teagarden ( 1939-1940 ), then with private Trio ( 1944 recordings for Black & White). It was made in 1938 with Louis Armstrong and was valued as companions, including by Billie Holiday and Sarah Vaughan (Pickup 1945). Jaffe died young of complications from high blood pressure.
