Nathan ben Jehiel

Nathan ben Jehiel (also: Nathan ben Jehiel; * around 1020 in Rome, † 1106 in Rome) was Italian - Jewish scholar, lexicographer and a Talmudic authority.

From him comes the work Aruch ( Arukh, " ready ", " ready " ), the first specialized dictionary on the Talmud. It quotes on individual keywords many document texts from today often lost writings, leads rabbinic expressions on their (supposed) origin in Greek, Latin, Persian, etc. back.

The Arukh was an indispensable handbook for the coming centuries and influenced the work of rabbinic lexicons to the present day.
