Nathaniel H. Odell

Nathaniel Holmes Odell ( born October 10, 1828 in Greenburgh, New York, † October 30, 1904 in Tarrytown, New York ) was an American politician. Between 1875 and 1877 he represented the State of New York in the U.S. House of Representatives.

Career

Nathaniel Holmes Odell attended private schools. He then worked on the North River in the steamboat business. Between 1857 and 1861 he sat in the New York State Assembly. He founded the First National Bank in Tarrytown and worked there from 1862 to 1864 as a cashier ( cashier ). In 1866 he was elected County Treasurer in Westchester County and re-elected in 1869 and 1872. Politically, he was a member of the Democratic Party.

In the congressional elections of 1874 for the 44th Congress Odell was in the twelfth electoral district of New York in the U.S. House of Representatives in Washington DC chosen, where he became the successor of Charles St. John on March 4, 1875. Since he gave up for reelection in 1876, he retired after March 3, 1877 from the Congress.

After his conference time he went to the real estate business. Between 1887 and 1892, and 1894-1898 he was postmaster in Tarrytown. He died there on 30 October 1904 and was then buried in the Sleepy Hollow Cemetery.
