The National Bank of Romania ( Romanian: Banca Naţională a României ) is the central Reserve Bank of Romania. The head office of the Bank is located in Bucharest.

History

The initial capital of the Romanian National Bank amounted to 30 million lei, of which 10 million were provided from State resources.

Management

The management of the Bank of Romania is subject to an autonomy law. It consists of

  • A governor
  • A Deputy Governor
  • A ruling governor and
  • The Central Bank Commission.

The governor is appointed by the Romanian Parliament. Current Governor Mugur Isarescu is.

Tasks

The central bank is pursuing a flexible exchange rate policy, and focuses on the fight against inflation.

The tasks of the Central Bank includes the implementation of monetary policy decisions of the Governing Council, the processing of payment transactions, the management of the national foreign exchange reserves and the creation of the national balance of payments ( collecting the necessary statistical data).
