National Commission on the Disappearance of Persons

The Comisión Nacional sobre la Desaparición de Personas ( CONADEP ) ( National Commission on the Disappearance of Persons ) was launched on 15 December 1983 by the Argentine president Raúl Alfonsín shortly after taking office by the Decree 187/83 to life. She had the task of examining the fate of the desaparecidos and other human rights violations during the military dictatorship from 1976 to 1983 ( the so-called process of the National Reorganization ).

The results of the inquiry commission were in the Nunca más report ( German: never again ) passed on 20 September 1984, Alfonsín and still form the basis for numerous lawsuits against members of the military juntas and other military personnel, such as General Jorge Rafael Videla.
