National Conservatoire (Greece)

The National Museum (Greek Εthniko Odio Εθνικό Ωδείο ) in Athens is the most important Academy of Music in the country next to the Athens Conservatoire.

The college was founded in 1926 by the composer Manolis Kalomiris along with some artists and sponsors. Unlike the Athens Conservatory, it also promotes music education of young people and has offices throughout the country, and one in Egypt and one in Cyprus. Graduates were, among others, the singer Maria Callas and conductor Teodor Currentzis.

1940, the National Opera was founded as henceforth autonomous institution at the National Conservatory, whose members, two-thirds were graduates of the Conservatory.
