National Health Insurance (Japan)

The National Health Insurance or people health insurance (Japanese国民 健康 保 険, Kokumin Kenko Hoken, in short:国 保, Kokuho; engl National Health Insurance, short NHI. ) Is ( hoken Seikan and kumiai hoken ) next to the employee health insurance is the second pillar of the Japanese health insurance system.

It corresponds in Germany the statutory insurance including legal term care insurance and is generally within Japan. The insurance contributions are levied as insurance taxes. For incurred abroad medical costs of the insured must first pay in advance, but can submit the receipts for reimbursement later. This corresponds to the reimbursement system of private health insurance in Germany.
