Consequence was the Reforma Universitaria, a democratic reform movement, which was supported by the liberal Argentine government Hipólito Yrigoyens and captured by one, all universities in the country and many more in South America.

In the military dictatorships of 1966-1973 and 1976-1983 the democratic gains were partially withdrawn. Since the democratization of Argentina, the discussion about the role of the university is kindled, which is traditionally used in Argentina for free and without access restriction. 2004 was discussed (especially medicine) for the first time, introduce an upper limit for candidates in some subjects due to overloading of some very sought-after courses.
