Naujac-sur-Mer

Naujac -sur -Mer is a municipality with 858 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2011 ) on the French Atlantic coast in the Gironde department in the Aquitaine region. It belongs to the community association Communauté de communes de la Pointe du Medoc.

Geography

Naujac -sur- Mer is located in a large pine forest on the Atlantic Ocean north of Lac de Hourtin et de Carcans ( Lake of Hourtin- Carcans ). The municipality is located 8 kilometers northwest of Hourtin and 58 kilometers north- west of Bordeaux. While the village is located around 10 kilometers inland, the campsite Le Pin Sec is located just 2 kilometers from the hamlet of Saint -Isidore directly on the beach.

Culture and sights

The International Chess Tournament Open International d' Échecs des Vins du Médoc is annually organized by the chess club L' Échiquier Naujacais and takes place in Naujac -sur -Mer.

In Saint -Isidore is the former sawmill Le Flamand, which was attached to 1967 on a Naturharzdistillerie. It was built in 1863. 6000 hectares of forest were the sawmill available. 1914, 1938 and 1949 homes were built for the workers and increases the workshop. In 1940, the plant was connected to the power grid and modernized in 1954. 1956, 1960 and 1970 enlarged the company. It has now also parquet flooring, wall panels and laminated wood. By 1940 a steam engine powered the work. 1990, the work had still 103 employees.

Economy

Major lines of business of Naujacais are forestry, beekeeping and rearing of game.
