Nauru national soccer team

The Nauruan national football team is one of the few international team sport selections of the Republic of Nauru, but is not admitted to official playoff games as the World Cup qualifiers. The national team is the most important organ of Nauru Amateur Soccer Association (NASA).

Association

The Nauruan Football Association NASA was founded in 1973 and since then eking out an Nauru almost entirely unremarkable existence. The Association has been recognized by FIFA or by the OFC as the official national football association. In Nauru, there are no stages except for a few play areas and an unfinished sports stadium. The Menen Stadium, which could apply to the FIFA Statutes as a football stadium under is half finished and is not currently being built further due to lack of funds. In addition, there are two other ways. Here, the Linkbelt Oval is suitable only for football and the Denig stage can hardly be called a stadium.

On 2 October 1994, the Nauruan national football team played a friendly match in Denig Stadium in Denigomodu against the selection of the Solomon Islands. It is so far the only game that has been recognized by the OFC and thus can be officially counted. Nauru won the game entirely surprising 2-1 and caused quite a sensation of the biggest sports in the country. The Solomon Islands national football team, despite their low league clear favorite, as they had already won in the same year the Melanesian Football Cup. Thus, the Nauruan team has at least something that all other teams do not have: a 100 percent winning record.
