Navicular bone

The navicular ( " navicular " ) or Os centrale tarsi is a short bone of the tarsus. In the older literature the navicular bone of the hand as navicular was called. A scaphoid fracture is much more common than at the base of the hand.

It is located big toe side or shin other. Form there is a cave known as the articular surface for the head (caput tali ) of the ankle bone ( talus ) is used. In the center there is a roughening ( tuberosity of the navicular ), which turns fußinnenwärts, and far from the body, there are three separate from one another only by small protrusions joint surfaces for the three cuneiform bones (ossa cuneiform ). Failing the fusion of ossification of the navicular bone, a bone arises tibial externum.

In ruminants, the os tarsi centrale is fused with the tarsal quartum Os Os centro quarters,.
