Naviera Armas

The Naviera Armas is a Spanish shipping company with headquarters in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria on the Canary island of Gran Canaria. It operates several routes in their own vessels, both between the different Canary Islands, and formerly also - now ceased - connections from there to Madeira and Portimão in Portugal. In the short term, there were connections from Fuerteventura to Morocco ( 2008) and Gran Canaria for Western Saharan city of Laayoune (French: Laayoune ) (2010 ). There is also a ferry service between Cape Verde Mindelo and Porto Novo.

History

The shipping company was founded in 1941 by Antonio Armas Curbelo for freight transport, although at that time especially the salt transport played an important role. His son, Antonio Armas Fernandez is the CEO today. From one has with wooden sailing ships, which were later also motor driven. Later, the transportation of passengers was recorded. Today Naviera Armas has eight ro-ro ferries with capacity for cars, trucks and passengers.

Incidents

On 30 April 2008, the 1967 -built ro-pax ferry Assalama, the former Volcan de Tenaguam ran with 113 passengers and 60 vehicles off the coast of Morocco due.
