Navjote

The Navjote ceremony is in the Zoroastrian religion, the ritual clothing with shirt ( sedre ) and belt ( Kusti ). Since the wearing of sedre and Kusti is the identifying feature of the believer, the Navjote ritual has the character of an initiation into the religious community.

In the Parsees in India, a cleansing ritual before the garment is passed and it is recited a confession of sin, which is just like the garment itself from a priest ( Mobed ) performed. In the garb of the priest touches the sedre about the child and then helps him to first bind the Kusti. After the investiture of the priests accompanied the child a red lucky mark on the forehead, presented to him by a metal tray auspicious objects (eg a coconut ), talks about the seated before him child Blessings and pelted it with rose petals, rice grains, pomegranate seeds and coconut flakes. Then a great celebration takes place in which the child receives gifts.

The garment is done in India at the age of 7 to 10 years, Iran, children are a little older. Are being dressed in the conservative Zorastriern only ( male ) descendants of Zoroastrians, which contributes there to reduce the number of the faithful.
