Navy and Marine Corps Medal

The Navy and Marine Corps Medal is the third highest honor awarded by the Navy Department of the United States. The Order can be awarded only to members of the United States Navy and United States Marine Corps. The award has been presented since August 7, 1942 by a Congress decision.

The Navy and Marine Corps Medal is awarded soldiers who have demonstrated outside of fighting courage and bravery. The award is equivalent to the Soldier's Medal of the Army, the Airman 's Medal Air Force and Coast Guard Medal of the Coast Guard.

The most famous bearer of the Navy and Marine Corps Medal was John F. Kennedy.
