NDISwrapper

NDISwrapper is an open source program that allows the use of Windows drivers for wireless network cards primarily under GNU / Linux.

The Network Driver Interface Specification (NDIS ) denotes the originally standardized by Microsoft and 3Com driver specification, which should make it easier for hardware manufacturers to write drivers for their respective devices. Are there any driver you need for certain types of cards not yet on Linux or Unix systems, the NDISwrapper acts as an adapter between the operating system and drivers. Next to the module for the Linux / Unix kernel It also contains programs for administration and setting up the driver.

Graphical frontends

NDISwrapper consists of a kernel module and a command-line program for administration. To facilitate the use of NDISwrapper Some graphical front ends have been developed that are intended to simplify the installation of the Windows driver. These programs provide a graphical user interface and use NDISwrapper as a backend. The graphical frontends include ndisgtk that is with Zenwalk Linux and Wolvix in the standard installation available, ndisconfig, the default under Vector Linux is used and KNDISWrapper for the KDE 3.5.x surface.
