Ndre Mjeda

Ndre Mjeda ( born November 20, 1866 in Shkodra, Albania, † August 1, 1937 ) was an Albanian poet and cleric. He was influenced by the writer Anton Xanoni and poet Leonardo De Martino.

From 1880 to 1887 studied Mjeda literature in the Carthusian monastery Porta Coeli in Valencia, rhetoric, Latin and Italian in Croatia at a Jesuit high school, at the Gregorian University in Rome and at another university in Chieri. In addition to studying Mjeda Albanian poetry began to write. Some of his best known poems are Vaji i Bylbylit ( The action of the Nightingale ) ( 1887) and Vorri i Skanderbegut ( Skanderbeg grave ).

From 1887 to 1891 Mjeda also studied music at the University of Marco Girolamo Vida in Cremona and translated religious literature. He published Jeta e sceitit SC ' gnon Berchmans (The Life of Jan Berchmans ) (1888), and T' perghjamit e Zojs Bekume ( imitation of the Virgin ) ( 1892), a translation from the Spanish, Katekizmi i Madh ( The Great Catechism ), another translation, and e Historia Shejtë ( Christmas Story ).

Mjeda later studied theology at the Jesuit high school in Krakow, Poland, and taught philosophy, philology, logic and metaphysics at the university in Kraljevica, where he was also a librarian. In 1898 he was expelled after a conflict between Austria - Hungary and the Vatican.

Mjeda was a member of the Literary Commission in Shkodra and as a deputy in the National Assembly of Albania. He left politics after Fan Noli's defeat and the rise of King Zog. He then served as pastor in Kukel and taught until his death in Albanian language and literature at the Jesuit high school in Shkodra.
