Neafrapus

Neafrapus cassini

Neafrapus is a small bird genus in the family of sailors ( Apodidae ). The distribution is restricted to Africa. The two species of the genus are comparatively highly localized. The plumage of both species is similar to strong, the Cassinsegler is significantly larger than the bat sailors.

Features

The body length of the Cassinseglers is 15 inches, that of the bat sailors around 10 centimeters, making it one of the smallest species of the tribe Chaeturini. The plumage of both species shows a black top with a white stripe on the rump or upper tail-coverts. The throat and the upper part of the breast is gray, the remainder of the body bottom white.

Both species have a remarkably short tail, which is offset by very bulky secondaries. The "tail spikes " that go beyond the flags of feathers protruding quills are clearly developed. The toes are arranged anisodactyl.

System

The species of this genus were originally attributed to the genus Chaetura, in the course of 1970 by RK Brooke standing division of the genus Chaetura the Neafrapus species were an independent genus.

The following types are attributed to the genus:

  • Cassinsegler ( Neafrapus cassini )
  • Bat bats ( Neafrapus boehmi )
