Fish ladder in Kolln

The fog is a right, partly canalized tributary of the River Warnow in Mecklenburg- Vorpommern.

River

The mist rises in Mecklenburg -Western Pomerania district Mecklenburg Lake southeast of Krakow Lake in the Nature Park Nossentin / Schwinzer Heath. The source form of about 13 kilometers north of the town of Malchow in Hohen Wangelin lying Malkwitzer lake. The Water Framework Directive provides a MV about 1.2 kilometers south of the lake springing and leading into the lake as the fog trench at source.

From Malkwitzer lake from the mist passes through both wooded rolling hills and through marshy - swampy areas. They first flows through smaller lakes - Kraazer lake, courtyard, Orth and Linstower lake - and then crosses under the federal highway 19 near Dobbin flows into the river in Krakow Lake, where the city of Krakow am See. The mist leaves the lake in his Northeast corner at Serrahn. From there it makes its way northeast through the fog - water gap, in which a terminal moraine is breached in a medium mountain -like landscape. Then reached the fog Gustrow, the largest town on the river.

From Güstrow the mist flows westward and then opens at Biitzow in the Warnow. Parallel to the natural underflow tortuous 1894-1896, the right side Biitzow - Güstrow channel has been created. Shortly before the mouth of the Warnow natural running and former waterway are reunited.

Watershed

The fog source is connected to the North Sea - Baltic Sea watershed. This means that the only short streams and ditches that flow on the southern side of the ridge between Malkwitzer and Fleesensee, flow over the Elde and Elbe into the North Sea, while the fog over the river Warnow flows into the Baltic Sea.

History

Spring lake the fog was originally the Kraazer lake. The connection to the once endorheic, 500 meters west and higher-lying Malkwitzer lake was created during the German occupation.

Between Güstrow and Biitzow the Biitzow - Güstrow Canal was built parallel to the old fog 1894-1896. In Güstrow even the fog was straightened and diverted to make way for the construction of Liebnitzbrücke in the 1970s.

The river was at Hoppenrade to 2008 renatured by laying in a new, laid in bed river bends and extends to about one kilometer. In GDR times, this section had been straightened. Left and right of the new riverbed flooding areas were created.

Flora and Fauna

The fog is considered one of the cleanest and most species-rich rivers of Mecklenburg. Many fish species are native here, inter alia, Eel, grayling, brook lamprey, perch, chub, minnows, pike, loaches and wolffish. So far, 29 native fish species have been found in the river. Nebeldurchbruchstal

From the exit from the Krakow Lake to Klueß the fog has been ensured over a length of about 20 kilometers as a nature reserve fog. Between Serrahn and Kuchelmiß part of Durchbruchstals for tourism is developed. The fog here has the character of a mountain stream with debris terrain, rocks, fallen trees and steep banks. At a length of four kilometers, it has a gradient of 14 meters. Between the gradients strongly meandering river sections, embedded in swamp forests and meadows, which are very rich in species.

In the transverse valley, the water mill Kuchelmiß that has been built as early as 1558. Today, it is monument and museum.
