Nebria

Nebria brevicollis

The dam runners ( Nebria ) are a genus of beetles in the family of ground beetles ( Carabidae ) within the subfamily Nebriinae. It occurs in Europe with 172 species and subspecies, 19 are also native to Central Europe.

Features

The beetles are medium in size and have a heart-shaped pronotum and long thin legs. They differ from the beard runners ( Leistus ) by their mandibles and maxillae normally trained. The larvae also see where the beard runner similar, but have a gedrungeneren physique. Her head is less strong and the Thorakalring is less elongated. Your Cerci are strong bristles.

Occurrence and life

The nocturnal animals are nimble runner and live in flowing waters, especially in montane to subalpine regions, but also in the lowlands and on the edge of snow fields under stones. They prefer moist habitats, but are not limited to them. They feed on springtails ( Collembola ).
