NEC Corporation (English formerly Nippon Electric Company; jap日本 电 気 株式会社, Nippon Denki Kabushiki - gaisha ), listed on the Nikkei 225, ISIN JP3733000008, was founded in 1899 by Kunihiko Iwadare and is now considered part of the Sumitomo Group, a global electronics company. History

At its founding, NEC was the first Japanese joint venture with foreign capital. Co-founder at that time was the Western Electric Company, a manufacturer of telephone equipment, which belongs to the Bell Company. NEC began with the manufacture of telephones and switchboards.

Criticism

In October 2011, the company was convicted of illegal price-fixing agreements in the period from 1999 to 2004 by the EU, together with Asahi Glass, Schott AG and Samsung Corning Precision Materials, to a total amount of 128.7 million euros. The cartel had the prices of CRT glass for televisions and computer screens discussed.
