Nechung Oracle

Pekar (Tibetan: pe kar ), also called Pehar, is the name of a tutelary deity of the Buddha's teachings ( Dharmapala ), venerated in the context of Tibetan Buddhism and Bon. Pekar is used both as the Nechung deity, and as a Trinley Gyalpo (Tib.: phrin las rgyal po) seen.

The worship Pekar goes back to the 9th century, when Pekar, originally a deity of the non-Buddhist Meditation School of Bhata Hor (Mongolia), Buddha was put under oath by the great tantric master Padmasambhava as the protector of the teachings.

Pekar is also considered one of the main deities of the Bon.

Protector of Samye Monastery

According to tradition, Padmasambhava Pekar enthroned as the main protector of Samye, the first monastery in Tibet. A temple within the investment Samyes is therefore under the name lha khang Pekar Pekar Temple or pe kar gling known. Nechung Monastery and Nechung oracle

Since then, Pekar is one of the most important protector in the Gelug school of Tibetan Buddhism and is also referred to as the deity Nechung. Since 1987, Thupten Ngodup is the 14th state oracle; its predecessor was Lobsang Jigme.

The five Pekar Gyalpo

Pekar is the main deity of a group of five protectors. This group alongside Pekar include the following deities:

  • Gyabin ( Gya Jin )
  • Monbu Putra
  • Shingyachen ( Shing Chen Cha )
  • Drahla Kye Zhigbu ( Dra Lha Kye Chigbu )

Pekar himself receive the mandala this group protectors but the central position, it is the northern districts (see also Dorje Drak ) assigned.
