Necrobiosis lipoidica

The necrobiosis lipoidica (or necrobiosis lipoidica ) is a rare granulomatous inflammation of the middle dermis with accumulation of lipids, which is often associated with diabetes mellitus. The inflammation leads to necrosis of the skin and usually occurs on the lower legs stretch sides.

The disease starts with intense red, lentil-sized papules, arising from which somewhat sunken, disc-shaped, to palm-sized, yellow, sclerotic, crisscrossed by telangiectasia herd, which are surrounded by a slightly raised rim livid. In about one third of cases, poorly healing ulcerations develop.

About 0.3 % of diabetics develop a necrobiosis lipoidica. Women are affected more often than men.
