Neighbourhood
As a city district, and city square, urban district or residential area, sometimes quarter ( to Latin quartus, four ' ) refers to a part of a city.
Description
The name was derived from that schedule -scale Roman, but also medieval towns were often shared by the two in the center intersecting main roads into four equal parts.
A neighborhood is a straightforward, often consisting of only a few streets, social frame of reference that delineates both spatially / geographically and by social or ethnic structure of its inhabitants forth from other neighborhoods. A formal delineation usually does not exist here. The area is defined by its residents and is independent of the area of a district or borough.
Such district have different regional names:
- Barrio - in Spain
- Grätzl - in Vienna
- Neighborhood - in Berlin and northeastern Germany
- Kvarter (older spelling of Quarter ) - in Sweden, called an intra- urban building block, surrounded by four streets. A " kvarter " always has a name and then the official, the official name of the property within the district
- Malgrei - in today belonging to Bolzano Dodiciville
- Mohalla - in India
- Quarters - in Switzerland and in France, see also Quartier ( Paris), but also in Germany, for example, in Augsburg (worsted district, provisions Bach neighborhood and city Bach neighborhood )
- Veedel - in Cologne.
Special district
Many district have a special character, which is reflected in popular names, including
- Station District
- Financial District
- Slums
- Waterfront
- Artist quarter
- Trendy district
- Lesbian and gay district
- Red-light district
History loaded, but not forced in any case, there are district for religious, ethnic and cultural groups:
- Ghetto, especially Jewish ghetto
- Chinatown
The entertainment district and the Old Town district of many cities have proper names.
