Neijiang
Neijiang (Chinese内江 市, pinyin Neijiang Shì ) is a prefecture-level city in the southeast, southwest China's Sichuan Province. Neijiang is bordered to the south by the cities of Luzhou and Zigong, in the west to the city of Meishan, Ziyang City to the north and to the east by the direct-controlled municipality of Chongqing. The administrative area Neijiangs has an area of 5386 km ² and about 4.2 million inhabitants ( end of 2004). At the census in 2000 were still counted 4,160,305 inhabitants.
Administrative Divisions
At county level, Neijiang is made up of two districts and three counties. These are:
- City Shizhong District (市 中 区= " center " ), 388 km ², 540,000 inhabitants, center, seat of the city government;
- City District Dongxing (东兴 区), 1181 km ², 850,000 inhabitants;
- Weiyuan county (威远 县), 1289 km ², 740,000 inhabitants, capital: greater community Yanling (严 陵镇);
- Zizhong County (资 中 县), 1734 km ², 1.31 million inhabitants, capital: large village Chong Long (重 龙镇);
- Circle Long Chang (隆昌 县), 794 km ², 760,000 inhabitants, capital: greater community Jin'e (金 鹅 镇).
History
Originally called Neijiang ( "inner flow " ) Zhongjiang (中 江= " medium flow "). In 1950, the District Neijiang (内江 专区) was established and the administrative area south Sichuan assumed. In 1951 the urban area of the circle Neijiang (内江 县) was removed and then the independent city of Neijiang (内江 市) was founded. 1970, the District Neijiang was converted into the administrative district of Neijiang (内江 地区). 1985 the State Council of the PRC, the government district Neijiang and dissolve the independent city of Neijiang, on the administrative territory of the former administrative district of the new prefecture-level city of Neijiang and to build on the administrative territory of the former independent city to city Shizhong District. 1989 finally the circle Neijiang was dissolved and converted into the Municipality Dongxing. On 26 February 1998 the Council of State from the administrative territory of the prefecture-level city of Neijiang decided the circles Anyue (安岳 县) and Lezhi (乐至县) as well as the cities of Ziyang (资阳市) and Jianyang (简阳 市) extract and in this area the Government District Ziyang (资 阳 地区) to set up.
