Neil Corbould

Neil Corbould ( born December 24, 1962 in England ) is a British VFX Supervisor, the (2001 and 2014), twice received the Oscar for best visual effects.

Life

He grew up with two brothers, Chris Corbould and Paul Corbould, also worked as a special effects artist in England. At the age of 15, he got into Superman by his uncle Colin Chilvers, who worked for the film as a VFX Supervisor, his first job as a special effects errand boy. In 1980, he worked in The Elephant Man as a technician for Martin Gutteridge. In the following years followed as a special effects technician films such as Superman II - Alone against all, Superman III - The steel flash and James Bond 007 - Licence to Kill.

In 1997, he was first employed as a conductor for special effects in The Fifth Element. In 2000 he founded the special effects company Neil Corbould Special Effects Limited, which is headquartered in Pinewood Studios.

For Gladiator, he received the 2001 Academy Award for Best Visual Effects. He received further nominations in 2007 for Superman Returns and 2013 for Snow White and the Huntsman. In 2014 he was honored once again with Tim Webber, Chris Lawrence and Dave Shirk for his work on the science-fiction film Gravity with the Oscar in this category.
