Nemanjić dynasty

The dynasty of the Nemanjić, also called Nemanjic (Serbian: Немањићи, Nemanjici ), was a Serbian dynasty, which was founded by Stefan Nemanja and 1167-1371 the medieval Serbia ruled. The dynasty brought forth two Großžupane, eight kings and two Tsars. The most important rulers were Stefan Uroš I. (1233-1276), Stefan Uroš II Milutin (1282-1331) and Stefan Uroš IV Dušan ( 1331-1355 ).

Initially fluctuating between Roman Catholic and Orthodox rite, sat down with Sava of Serbia, the orientation to Constantinople and the Orthodox rite Opel finally through. King Milutin introduced the Byzantine court ceremonial. The highlight of the Nemanjic - power represented the king Dušan founded by Serbian Tsar Empire, which became a prominent position in Southeastern Europe. Dusan's Code of 1349 is based on Greek models.

As the makers of Serbian culture the Nemanjic is of paramount historical importance. Numerous magnificent mausoleums in Byzantine and Byzantine- Romanesque style led to the formation of an independent ecclesiastical architecture ( Serbian - Byzantine style), which is characterized by Romanesque and Gothic influences ( Dečani monastery ) of the Byzantine models differs significantly ( Raška School ). With the stronger orientation to the east the Palaiologische under Stefan Uroš II Milutin Renaissance reached its peak in the monastery church of Gracanica.

In the aftermath of the Nemanjic also the dynasties of Lazarevic and Brankovic, under which the Morava School came to bloom, which marks the end of medieval Serbian art saw.
