Nenad Petrović (chess composer)

Nenad Petrović ( born September 7, 1907 in Zagreb ( Austria - Hungary, now Croatia); † November 9, 1989 ) was a Yugoslav chess composer.

Life

Nenad Petrovic is one of the greatest composers of all time. Over the years, he has published over 650 original works from all areas of chess composition, 121 of which were included in the FIDE Albums. For his outstanding achievements him in 1976 the title of Grand Master of Chess Composition was awarded. His numerous, partly still valid records as well as the imagined or realized by him tasks set new standards in chess composition and earned him the name the man of tasks.

As early as 1947 he became world champion in solving chess problems. In 1952 he founded the journal issue in life, which established itself in 1959 to its setting 1981 as the official voice of the Permanent Commission for Chess Composition in the FIDE ( PCCC ). 1956 was Petrović founding member and 1958-1962 President of the PCCC after the death of his predecessor, J. Neukomm. He also considered the spiritual father of the Code of chess compositions and called in 1958 at the Congress in Piran FIDE albums to life on their 13 first issues for the period 1914 to 1982 he played a leading role. The work on 14 album, he could not bring to an end by death.

As an international Jury Petrović taught countless tournaments. He also wrote many articles in which Petrović presented pioneering thoughts on chess composition.

Petrović also dealt with the lesser known areas of chess composition, such as the chess mathematics and engineering tasks.

  • With all 32 stones you can build about 1032 legal positions.
  • Place all the white pieces on the chessboard so on, that a legal position will be created and that White can run as many trains. Here Petrović found a solution with 122 trains.
  • Construct a legal position in which White can run as many trains. Constructed in 1964 Petrović a position with 218 possible moves for White.

Private

Nenad Petrović was the director of an internationally active large construction company Viaduct ( Zagreb).
