Nenagh (Irish: An tAonach, also Aonach Urmhumhan " fair Ostmunsters " ) is with 8439 inhabitants ( as of 2011) is the largest city in the north of County Tipperary in Ireland and the administrative center of North Tipperary. It lies on the River Nenagh, which opens seven kilometers further north in Dromineer into Lough Derg. In the south of the city, the Silvermine Mountains lie.

Nenagh was originally a market town with the Gaelic name Aonach Urmhumhan, which means " market of Ormond ." Today Nenagh is a center of trade and commerce.

Architecture

One of the most significant buildings in the city is the Nenagh Castle, a tower house, which was built by the family butler 1217 and is ranked among the most beautiful in Ireland. It measures about 16 meters in width and is over 30 meters high.

Other monuments include the Hospital, founded in 1200 the Cross and the ruins of the Franciscan monastery founded in 1250.
