Neobuxbaumia polylopha is a species of the genus Neobuxbaumia in the cactus family ( Cactaceae ).

Description

Neobuxbaumia polylopha grows achieved individually and plant height to 13 meters. The columnar shoots are initially light green and darker with age. They have diameters of up to 50 centimeters. 22 to 36 ( rarely 10 ) narrow, slightly arched ribs are separated from one another by a sharp fold. The single, flexible central spine, which may be absent, is often shorter than the seven to eight spines. The spines are also flexible and 1 to 2 inches long. They are yellowish to brownish and greyish with age.

The flowers usually appear in groups near the shoot tips. They are dark, 4 to 6 inches long and reach a diameter of 3 to 3.5 cm. Your Perikarpell and the flowers are tubular with fairly large bumps and small scales, which are bare in the axillae, busy. The egg-shaped, green fruits are occupied from 2.4 to 4 inches long and with scales, wool and bristles.

Distribution, systematics and hazard

Neobuxbaumia polylopha is common in the Mexican states of Hidalgo, Querétaro, Guanajuato and San Luis Potosí.

The first description was in 1828 as Cereus polylophus by Augustin- de Candolle Pyrame. Curt Backeberg put the type in 1941 in the genus Neobuxbaumia.

In the Red List of Threatened Species IUCN, the type is known as " Vulnerable (VU) ," ie, performed as endangered.
