Neocorus

Johann Adolfi Köster called Neocorus (* 1550, † 1630) was a chronicler of the country Dithmar and from 1590 to 1624 pastor of the church Büsum.

Chronicler activity

Neocorus was an important chronicler of history Dithmarschens; he worked for the introduction to the history and the text of the Germania of Tacitus in Middle Low German. He had almost certainly likely to have access to the writings of his " predecessor" in the country. There are known: the Lundener clergyman Nicolaus clemency in 1480, author of several notes about the country, Johann Erp in 1520, Henning SWYN, to 1533, Nicholas Dyck in 1500, and Jacob Boie in 1540 on Contemporary History and Local.

More " predecessors " were Johann Russian, ca 1506-1555, who used the records of Henning SWYN (see above ), Carsten Schröder from 1531 to 1615, access to records Russes and Petersen ( 1599) on the Battle of Hemmingstedt with attributions the fallen knight, which he had from his father.

Neocorus wrote his historical work "Chronicle of the country Dithmar " handwritten in Middle Low German, but can not accomplish, even his "successor" Hans Detlef tho mountains Windt (1634 /43) could only handwritten continue the work. Only Prof. Friedrich Christoph Dahlmann, Kiel, originating from the original Chronicle adds, including the continued writing chroniclers such as Johann Adrian Bolten (1781-1788) and the witnesses of the battle of Hemmingstedt ( 1500) Albert Krantz ( 1504) (whose extensive were works of the previous chroniclers so not accessible) published in Kiel in 1827.
