Néoules

Néoules is a commune with 2535 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2011 ) in the Var department in the Provence- Alpes- Côte d' Azur.

Geography

The municipality is located in the Provence Verte Néoules -called center of the Var at the foot of the Massif de la Verrerie and the Massif de Saint -Clément with the 704 m high Pilon de Saint -Clément. Opposite, on the other hand, the carrying of the Issole level, rises in the north of the Montagne de la Loube.

The long-distance GR9 crosses the area.

History

Remains from prehistoric times and antiquity demonstrate the colonization of the area from the Neolithic Age to the Gallo- Roman era.

The first medieval source that mentions the village Novulas, dates from the year 1036. Two hundred years later, Neoulis of the speech. The town was under the rule of the Counts, later the Bishop of Marseilles and finally that of Alard de Brignoles. The original town of La Bataillère was a little east of the present center. Around 1520 began with the colonization of the present-day village.

Demographics

In agricultural production wine, cereals, pines and aromatic plants are cultivated. The quality of wines may bear the seal AOC Coteaux Varois en Provence.
