Neowerdermannia vorwerkii is a flowering plant in the genus Neowerdermannia from the cactus family ( Cactaceae ). A common in Argentina trivial name is " Achacana ". The thickened taproot and the plant body are edible.

Description

Neowerdermannia vorwerkii grows with depressed globular, dark gray-green stems 6-10 inches in diameter. The 16 or more ribs are broken down into eye-catching, triangular cusp, between which the areoles are sunk. The 1-3 brownish to greyish central spines are often hooked and up to 2 inches long. The up to 10 curved and brownish spines have a length of up to 1.7 centimeters.
