Neşet Ertas (* 1943 in Kırtıllar, Kırşehir, Turkey Province; † 25 September 2012 in Izmir, Turkey) was a Turkish singer, the lute player and composer.

Life

Ertas has made many songs from his homeland Kırşehir Central Anatolia in the 1970s known nationwide, and many well-known songs were composed by him.

After the death of Mahzuni Serif in 2002, he was considered one of the most important Turkish Aşık ( "people's poet "). His songs were characterized - in contrast to those of Mahzuni Serif - less by political statements than by the poetry of his lyrics from.

Neşet ERTAS was, like his equally famous father Muharrem Ertas, a Abdāl, a wandering minstrel, who moved from place to place and at weddings and other occasions typical ways of his homeland Kırşehir recited.

After an illness he went with the wave of Turkish workers to Germany, where he continued unabated led his musical commitment by appearing at events of his countrymen. He lived for a time in Berlin and operating a music store here in the so-called Turkish bazaar in the disused until the turn Metro Station Buelowstrasse. Later, Cologne became his adopted home.

Before his death, he held increasingly in Turkey and gave occasional concerts and appeared on Turkish television.

Ertas was taken on September 10, 2012 due to cancer and chronic disease in a hospital in Izmir, where he died on 25 September 2012 at the age of 74 years.
