Nesokia

Pestratte ( Nesokia indica)

The Pestratten ( Nesokia ) are a rodent species from the group of Altweltmäuse ( Murinae ). The genus includes two species. They are close relatives of Bandikutratten and incorporated these into the Rattus genus group within the Altweltmäuse.

The physique of Pestratten is stocky, the head is short and rounded, the muzzle is broad, the ears are roundish. The tail is relatively short, the toes bear strong claws. With 0.1 to 0.5 kilograms, they are among the larger Altweltmäusen.

They are located in the southwestern and western Asia, and inhabit different habitats.

There are two types,

  • The Red Pestratte ( Nesokia bunnii ) and
  • The Pestratte ( Nesokia indica).

The Red Pestratte, which occurs only in Iraq, is larger and has a rötlicheres fur and a tail behaarteren than the Pestratte.
