Template: Infobox chemical / molecular formula search available

Nestoron is synthetic progestin, which can be used as a drug for birth control ( contraception), as hormone replacement therapy in menopause and for the treatment of endometriosis.

Unlike other progestins Nestoron can penetrate the skin and so on in the form of a gel, cream, spray, or implant ( vaginal ring ) may be administered. When ingested, the compound is decomposed in the gastrointestinal tract, and thus has no effect.

19- methylene - 16 -methylene substitution and addition in Nestoron enhance binding to the progesterone receptor by a factor of 100 as compared to progesterone.

In January 2004, Australia launched a test in which Nestoron to be tested in the form of a spray. This spray was developed by the Australian company Acrux and the U.S. non-profit organization Population Council.
