Netgear (written NETGEAR ) is a U.S. company founded in 1996 and is headquartered in Santa Clara, California. Originally Netgear was a subsidiary of Bay Networks with a focus on manufacturing and distribution of network technology for home users and small businesses. In August 1998 the company was purchased by Nortel as part of its acquisition of Bay Networks. Netgear remained until March 2000, a independent subsidiary of Nortel. After that Netgear opened for investors; in February 2002 Netgear became fully independent from Nortel.

Netgear sells its products through a variety of distribution channels worldwide, including traditional retailers, online retailers, distributors and network operators. Netgear is in the consumer markets with brands such as Apple, Belkin, AVM, Devolo, Roku and Western Digital in the competition. In the business sector, these are companies like Buffalo, Dell, D-Link, Cisco, Huawei, QNAP, Seagate, Synology and Western Digital. Within the service provider business manufacturers such as D-Link, Motorola, Pace, Sagem, ZTE, ZyXEL, Huawei, or can be found.

The company's shares are listed since 2003 on the NASDAQ under the symbol NTGR and traded. The annual net profit of Netgear amounted in 2012 to 86.5 million U.S. dollars.

Router and Modem Router
