NetNewsWire

NetNewsWire is a feed reader for Mac OS X and iOS, which has an ajar to Apple mail interface. In the first publication on 12 July 2002 he was one of the first available feed reader at all.

History

NetNewsWire was initially developed by Brent and Sheila Simmons for their company Ranchero software as shareware. On 12 July 2002, first appeared in a free Lite version, which was missing some more advanced features compared to the regular version is presented later. NetNewsWire 1.0 was released on 11 February 2003 and version 2.0 was released in May of 2005.

In October 2005 Ranchero Software NetNewsWire and NewsGator were bought. Version 3.0 was released on June 5, 2007. Starting with the release of NetNewsWire 3.1 NetNewsWire January 9, 2008 was offered free of charge to serve as an advertisement for other software offers NewsGator. NetNewsWire Lite was adjusted simultaneously.

Since May 2008, the program is also available in German.

Since one of the 23 September 2009 Version 3.2 NetNewsWire syncs with Google Reader and can send articles to Instapaper. In addition to a free, but ad-supported version, there was now again a paid, ad-free version of the program.

On 2 March 2011 NetNewsWire Lite 4.0 was released. It is, as before, to an ad-free version of the program, but the essential features are missing. This is based on a completely rewritten code base, which is to come for the paid version, as well as for the iOS version of the program for use in the future.

On 3 June 2011, the sale of NetNewsWire to Black Pixel, the company was announced. This was mainly a reaction to the sharp increase in development expenditure that was no longer afford alone.
