Neuchâtel Observatory

The Observatoire Cantonal de Neuchâtel (French for Cantonal Neuchâtel Observatory or Cantonal Neuchâtel Observatory ) is an astronomical observatory, which was established by the canton of Neuchâtel in Switzerland in 1858. The building was inaugurated in 1860 was built by Hans Rychner classically inspired shapes, which was then taken to place the instruments directly on the rock, without any connection to the building.

In addition to astronomical observations, the observatory in Neuchâtel is also working with atomic clocks. The second was determined by the rotation of the Earth 1967, and thus the observatory clocks calibrated by observations. Nowadays, the telescopes used by local amateur astronomers and the clocks are synchronized by means of atomic clocks.

The Cantonal Neuchâtel Observatory has IAU code 019
