Neuenkirchen, Diepholz

New Churches is a municipality in the district Diepholz in Lower Saxony with the hamlets of New Churches and Cantrup.

Geography

New churches situated south of the nature park Geest approximately midway between Bremen and Osnabrück. The community belongs to the Samtgemeinde Schwaförden, which has its administrative headquarters in Schwaförden.

History

Documented new churches was first mentioned in 1258 in connection with the St. Catherine's Church. In New Churches was a place of activity of the noble lords Grimmsberg. In the 14th century the place was in the territory of the county Altbruchhausen (now Bruchhausen- Vilsen ), went over the middle of the 14th century to the County of Hoya.

Incorporations

On March 1, 1974, the previously independent community Cantrup was incorporated.

Population Development

The good transport links is reflected in the development of the population. The number of inhabitants increased since the local government reform in 1974 by 676 people in 1177 December 31, 2007.

Culture and sights

  • The Romanesque hall church of St. Catherine dates from the 13th century. It is considered an architectural gem. Noteworthy are mainly decorative paintings inside the church.
  • Each year, a Low German play by the Neenkarkner Dörpspellern is listed in several performances. All the actors come out of the room new churches.

Traffic

Through the village runs right the federal highway 61, which runs from Bassum to Minden. At the now-defunct but still existing railway line Sulingen - Bassum the place formerly had its own railway station. The building is now used by the gun club as a shooting range.

Fire department

  • The volunteer fire department new churches is one of eleven local fire departments in the integrated municipality Schwaförden and has a basic configuration. It is equipped with a portable fire pump (TSF ) and a Tanklöschfahrzeug 16 ( TLF 16) equipped. The central location is the village community center affiliated firehouse.
  • The volunteer fire department Cantrup is also a local fire brigade and has a basic configuration.
