The substation Neuhof is a 110- kV substation in the district of Neuhof of Bad Sachsa, which was put into operation in 1985 and is connected via a double-circuit 110- kV AC line to the substation Wolkramshausen in the former GDR since this year. It is thus one of the few sub-stations in the old Federal Republic, about which even before the turn of electricity could be imported from the former GDR. The maximum import capacity was 40 MVA. Of these, up to 25 MVA could be fed with the help of five made by Siemens, rotary converters, which enabled the regulating on the considerable variations of the East German power grid in the western German interconnected grid. In addition, there was a direct feed of electrical energy from the power grid in the eastern German town of Bad Sachsa networks, Walk Ried, Zorge and Wieda.

The transducer consisted of an asynchronous squirrel-cage motor on the drive side and a runner -fed asynchronous slip-ring generator on the generator side. Both the nominal voltage of the motor and the generator was 10 kV. It was supplied to or removed from the local, operated at 20 kV medium-voltage network via appropriate transformers. The frequency adjustment was made with the help of a converter, which fed the runners with a voltage of 600 volts through a converter transformer. To start the installation of the asynchronous slip-ring generator was operated as a motor and put through a conventional starting circuits in operation. After the engine had reached its speed, squirrel-cage was switched on, which then took over the driving.

A similar transformer system was also used in the wind turbine Growian to couple this with the power grid.

In April 1990, the plant was shut down and between 2003 and 2005, the converters were including their auxiliary equipment dismantled and subsequently scrapped. The halls that once had the converters are still used today by the resin energy for operating purposes.

The line after Wolkramshausen was partly degraded and, connected to a line that comes from a substation from the West. The switchgear, in which once led the line from Wolkramshausen is currently unused. Before the substation is an unused 110 kV pylon East German design.
