Neuhofen an der Ybbs is a market town with 2861 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2013 ) in the district of Amstetten in Lower Austria, about ten kilometers south of Amstetten.

Geography

Neuhofen an der Ybbs is in the Most district in the hill country of the Alpine foothills, north of Hochkogel, directly at the foot of Kornberg's. Interestingly, despite their name, it is not directly on the Ybbs. 20.02 percent of the municipality is forested.

The municipality comprises the cadastral Amesleithen, Kornberg, Neuhofen an der Ybbs, Perbersdorf, shear Bling, Schindau and Tober Stetten.

Neighboring municipalities are: to the north Winklarn, east and west of Amstetten, which includes Winklarn, and further clockwise Euratsfeld, Randegg, Waidhofen an der Ybbs and Allhartsberg.

Climate

The weather is in the Ybbs valley in late autumn and in winter often through thick fog.

History

Neuhofen is also the cradle of Austria called because it was first mentioned in 996 in the so-called Ostarrichi certificate Austria documented along with Neuhofen. Emperor Otto III. donated to the Bishop of Freising Gottschalk 950 hectares of land in the place that is called Neuhofen. Possession of the bishopric of Freising.

A post office was established on 14 July 1869.

Population Development

According to the results of the 2001 census, there were 2,534 inhabitants. In 1991, the market town of 2,443 inhabitants in 1981 and 2,248 in 1971, 2,015 inhabitants.

Policy

The council has 21 seats, mayor of the municipality is Gottfried Eidler, Vice Mayor Maria Kogler, chief officer is Joseph Ströbitzer.

In the municipal elections of 2005, the ÖVP reached 16, the SPÖ and the FPÖ 4 1 mandate. In the municipal elections of 2010, the SPÖ lost one seat to the ÖVP and FPÖ.
