The Neuss Hauptbahnhof is an island station, which is at the junction of the left lower Rhine route (Cologne - Kleve ) and the railway line Mönchengladbach- Dusseldorf. Of the two routes on the one hand branches off the railway line Düren- Neuss, on the other hand, since 1984 ending in Kaarst railway Neuss- Viersen private Regiobahn.

The Neuss main station houses several shops, for example, a restaurant, a snack bar and a kiosk. In 2006, it was modernized with, inter alia, two of the four platforms were equipped with lifts for wheelchair users.

History

The Neuss Hauptbahnhof in 1853, taken with the opening of the railway line from Aachen in operation. A rail link to Cologne followed in 1855.

1875/76, the second station building was erected. At the same place also today's railway station is connected to the bike station opened in 2003.

With connection to the S -Bahn, 1985 ( S 11) and 1988 (S 8), the station was recently extensively remodeled.

Operation

Long-distance passenger traffic

Since the timetable change in December 2009, Neuss Hauptbahnhof is operated again from distance rail passenger transport:

  • An Intercity Express connects Neuss Fridays and Sundays with Berlin Ostbahnhof on one or Mönchengladbach Hauptbahnhof on the other side.
  • An Intercity from Aachen Central Station stops on the way to Berlin Suedkreuz Station in Neuss. The return achieved by Neuss Hauptbahnhof Leipzig coming and runs over Mönchengladbach and Aachen to Cologne Central Station.

From 10 June 2012, run the line RE6a of Dusseldorf Neuss and Dormagen on Cologne NRW, according to the Regional Transport Plan 2012.

Transportation

The stops at Neuss main station are served by twelve bus lines, a tram line and a rail line.

Planning

The new rail line U81 Stadtbahn Dusseldorf is by planning from the commercial area mutton field dam or possibly from Rheinparkcenter railway station via the main railway station and on about Loerick leading trade fair and the airport Dusseldorf Ratingen. Due to lack of funding the project is currently postponed.

Conversion

The Neuss main station is among the six stations in the Federal Republic, which were added to the station development program of the Deutsche Bahn AG. With the development of a concept, the planning office Jaspert Steffens, Watrin and Drehsen from Cologne was commissioned. The concept was developed in close cooperation with the city of Neuss and is currently being tested to determine its feasibility. Emphasis here is mainly the station forecourt, the reception building, the transportation facilities of the station itself and its environment.

The concept consists of eight modules, which can be realized independently. The so-called master plan NRW also provides for the development of rail infrastructure. On 11 December 2008, the plan of railway, Bund and the Land North Rhine-Westphalia was signed. The plan for the modernization is subsidized with € 767,000. In the second step of the operation, the modernization drive 2, Neuss main station will be rebuilt in the second half of 2012. Among other things, all platforms get a lift, the floor covering is renewed and auxiliary systems for the visually impaired to be installed.
