Neustadt (Wied)

Neustadt ( Wied) is a municipality in the district of Neuwied, in Rhineland -Palatinate. It belongs to the municipality Asbach. Neustadt is a nationally recognized tourist and reported as a basic center in accordance with state planning.

Geographical location

Neustadt ( Wied) is located in the Rhine-Westerwald Nature Park, right on the Wied River, a tributary of the Rhine.

The district is under remote valley crossed by the remote valley tunnel, a 1,555 m long railway tunnel and the high-speed line has been the district Ammerich by the Ammerichtunnel.

History

The first - controversial among experts - documentary mention of the place is so far dates back to the year 1185 ( after the victory Burger miracle book ). The " parochia Niwinstat " ( Neustadt parish ) is named in a 1213 document of the monastery Heisterbach. About five centuries Neustadt belonged to the Wied to the Official Altenwied and was thus - with interruptions - in kurkölnischer country rule. The early parish history is closely linked with the name of saynischen Countess Matilda of Sayn, which transferred in 1254 the patronage of the Cistercian abbey Heisterbach. The parochial care by Heisterbach had until the dissolution of the abbey in 1803 in the wake of secularization stock. 1815 Neustadt became Prussian.

  • The Catholic Chapel of St. Maria Mater Dolorosa in the district remote valley, a five-axis romanisierender quarry stone hall, built in 1911-1912;
  • The castle Altenwied in the district of Wied, partially restored and privately owned today, goes back to a built in the 12th century castle that was the seat of Electoral Cologne Office Altenwied from the mid-13th century;

  • Roads: Federal Highway 3 - two connection points: Bad Honnef / Linz / Asbach and Neustadt ( Wied) / remote valley
  • Railway: The railway station opened in 1912, Neustadt ( Wied) on the railway Linz am Rhein- Flammersfeld ( Seelbach ) was decommissioned in 1960. Today, the closest train stations are about 20 km in the Rhine Valley (Linz / Rhine, Bad Honnef ), and in the Sieg ( Hennef / Sieg, Eitorf ).

Public institutions

Neustadt has three schools and two church- supported kindergartens. The primary school " In der Au " supplied primarily the local church Neustadt, while the catchment area of the State Realschule and Gymnasium Wiedtal about the municipality extends.
