Neven Mimica

Neven Mimica ( born October 12, 1953 in Split) is a Croatian politician and diplomat. Mimica is since 2011 Deputy Prime Minister of Croatia and EU membership since July 2013 Member of the European Commission. He assumed responsibility for consumer protection.

Life and work

Mimica graduated in 1976, the Foreign Trade Studies at the University of Zagreb from. He then worked from 1978 to 1987 in the Croatian Committee on Foreign Relations. After studying at the University of Zagreb in Economics from the Croat joined the diplomatic service. Until 1997, Mimica was employed by embassies for example in Egypt and Turkey.

Following Mimica entered the political service for the Social Democratic Party Socijaldemokratska partija Hrvatske (SDP ). He worked from 1997 to 2001 as Secretary of State in the Croatian Ministry of Economy.
