Nevin Çokay

Nevin Çokay (* 1930 in Istanbul, † July 24, 2012 in Foca, Turkey) was a Turkish painter.

She spent her childhood in different regions of Turkey. In 1947 she began her studies in the studio of Bedri Rahmi Eyüboğlu at the State Academy of Fine Arts in Istanbul, where she graduated in 1953.

Her first exhibition was held in Istanbul's Gallery " Maya " instead ( 1953). From 1950-1953 she was a member of the State Choir for Turkish folk music under the direction of Nedim Otyam. Besides attending concerts and folk events, among others in Italy, she also worked as a voice actor and worked as an actress in the film " Yurda Dönüş " with. After 1954 she devoted herself entirely to painting.

Your pictures were, inter alia, shown in exhibitions of the State Museum of Painting and Sculpture and the Istanbul Biennale for Young Artists in Paris. In 1961 she won the second prize at the Istanbul art festivals.

In 1979, she received an invitation from Holland, where their images have been exhibited in various museums and galleries in Deventer, The Hague and Rotterdam for a period of one year. Your images can be found in addition to public and private collections in Germany and Holland, in the State Museum of Painting and Sculpture Istanbul, the Turkish Ministry of Culture and Tourism, the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality, Istanbul University and the Umjetnicka Galerij the former of Yugoslavia.

Nevin Çokay taught 17 years as a teacher of art and art history at high schools and gave private painting lessons 10 years in various studios galleries.

Until her death, she was working in her private studio in Foca, Izmir Province. She was married and has a son.
